Representative Lauren Boebert experienced a significant decline in fundraising from individual donors during the initial months of 2024. This drop in financial support coincided with her decision to relocate to a more conservative Congressional district, as reported by her campaign’s recent filing with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).
In the first quarter of 2023, she managed to raise approximately $562,988 from individuals. However, her most successful fundraising period of the 2024 election cycle occurred between July and September 2023, where she received an impressive $795,185 in individual contributions.
During the first quarter of 2024, her campaign expenses have seen an increase. In fact, the amount spent by her campaign, which totaled $761,255, was even higher than the funds raised from individuals. This also indicates a rise from the previous quarter in 2023, where the expenses amounted to approximately $684,437.
According to the filing, she had over $1 million remaining by the end of March 2023.
According to a political analyst, if a fire-brand conservative Republican like her is generating less money than others, it could be a cause for concern. In addition, if she decides to change districts to one further away from her current location, it could complicate her fundraising efforts and present additional challenges.
According to Boebert, her decision to move is connected to her personal life. However, political analysts point out that this move could also have political benefits. The new district she will be representing is significantly more Republican compared to her previous district. In the 2020 election, her former district only favored former President Donald Trump by eight points. Additionally, a Democrat came close to winning against Boebert in 2022.
The Fourth District includes the expansive and rural eastern region of the state, along with certain suburbs of Denver that have been leaning towards the Democratic party.
Boebert is currently facing multiple Republican challengers in the primary. Despite a drop in her fundraising in the less-competitive district, she still outperforms other Republicans who are raising significantly less than her.
Deborah Flora, a radio host, managed to secure the highest amount of funding from individual donors, amassing an impressive $169,627. On the other hand, Jerry Sonnenberg, a Logan County Commissioner, raised a commendable $130,894 for his campaign.
However, Boebert was outpaced in fundraising by Democrat Ike McCorkle. McCorkle managed to secure a total of $786,260 from individual donors in the first quarter of 2024.
The competitiveness of the upcoming election in November is still uncertain.
In the 2020 election, Trump won the district by a margin of 18 points, and Buck successfully secured his reelection in 2022. The Cook Political Report categorizes the district as Safe Republican, indicating that it is not considered a competitive race and is unlikely to become closely contested.
According to a recent poll conducted by Gravis Marketing and sponsored by McCorkle’s campaign, Boebert was found to be lagging behind McCorkle.
In a recent poll conducted from March 27 to 29, it was found that 38 percent of likely voters expressed their intention to support McCorkle, while 31 percent stated their preference for Boebert. However, a significant 30 percent of respondents remained uncertain about their choice, leaving the outcome of the race uncertain and the potential for undecided voters to sway in favor of Boebert.
In recent months, Boebert has found herself at the center of several controversies. One incident occurred in September 2023 when she was asked to leave a performance of the musical “Beetlejuice” at a theater in Denver. Boebert allegedly caused a disturbance by repeatedly vaping and being disruptive. Following the incident, she issued an apology for her behavior.
In February, Tyler Boebert, her 18-year-old son, faced a series of charges. These charges included criminal possession of a financial device, criminal possession of ID documents, and ID theft with intent to use.
