According to a source in the Sinaloa state government, gunmen have reportedly taken the life of a prominent member of Mexico’s Sinaloa drug cartel. The individual in question was wanted by the United States for drug trafficking. This information has been confirmed by Mexican media reports.
Eliseo Imperial Castro, also known as “Cheyo Antrax,” was the nephew of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, one of the founders of the cartel. Both Castro and Zambada are wanted by the U.S. government, and the State Department has put a $5 million reward on Zambada’s head.
According to Mexican media reports, Imperial Castro was attacked on a highway in Sinaloa, located in northwestern Mexico, on Thursday.
According to the U.S. Treasury Department, he was previously identified as a “high-ranking member of the Los Antrax organization, the enforcement group of the Sinaloa Cartel.”
According to reports from 2016, he faced charges in a U.S. court for trafficking methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana, along with money laundering.
In the previous year, the U.S. Treasury Department took action against three Mexican citizens, one of whom is known as “The Anthrax Monkey,” for their suspected roles in the manufacturing and distribution of the highly potent synthetic opioid fentanyl.
In 2015, a prominent member of the Sinaloa cartel, known as “Chino Antrax,” confessed in federal court to his involvement in the transportation of large quantities of cocaine and marijuana into the United States. He also admitted to ordering or taking part in acts of violence related to the cartel.
The Sinaloa Cartel stands as one of the most influential and brutal criminal organizations in Mexico.
The founder of the company, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, is currently serving a life sentence in the United States.
Last week, the Justice Department announced the extradition of a suspected top assassin in Mexico’s Sinaloa drug cartel to the United States. He will now face charges related to drug and weapons smuggling.
