“If anyone can save this country, it’s a New Yorker,” exclaimed Donald Trump to a crowd of enthusiastic supporters during a rally in Crotona Park, located in the traditionally Democratic South Bronx, on Thursday evening.
At the event, the former president said he was “thrilled” to be back campaigning in New York City, which he modestly claimed he had “helped build” for the first time in eight years.
Despite severe rain earlier in the day, a few thousand Maga supporters gathered in the park in the predominantly Hispanic and black area, emphasizing the former president’s efforts to erode President Joe Biden’s support among minority voters.
Mr. Trump spent over two hours on all of his favorite topics, including foreign policy, immigration, and himself. At one point, he informed crowds that he had “OD’d” (overdosed) on himself after spending too much time on television and in the press.
It follows another busy week for the former president in US courts. Manhattan prosecutors and defense attorneys rested their cases in his high-profile hush money trial, while in Florida, a hearing in Mr. Trump’s classified materials case deteriorated into a wild shouting fight.
