Bryan Kohberger returned to court today for a hearing, during which his defense team interrogated a Moscow Police Department detective about the handling of phone records. This questioning is part of their effort to compel the prosecution to provide additional evidence in the case.
Authorities are requesting dashcam footage and lab testing results pertaining to the search warrant executed at Mr. Kohberger’s residence in Pennsylvania.
The trial for the murders of University of Idaho students Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, who were killed on November 13, 2022, at their off-campus house in Moscow, Idaho, is currently pending for the 29-year-old criminology PhD student.
The authorities connected the 29-year-old suspect to the murders that shook Moscow using various pieces of evidence. These included DNA evidence, cellphone data, an eyewitness account, and his white Hyundai Elantra.
The defense attorneys have previously attempted to argue that the DNA could have been planted and that the prosecution has not provided all the evidence for the defense to examine.
Earlier this year, his attorneys filed a motion to dismiss the murder charges against him. They argued that the grand jury was biased, the evidence presented was inadmissible, and there was prosecutorial misconduct. However, Judge John Judge denied the motion.
The court has not yet scheduled a trial date.
