A man has died after allegedly going on a “killing spree,” killing three people in separate shootings in Florida: his mother, his cousin, and an ex-girlfriend’s new partner, according to investigators.
According to Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells, before the Monday night shootings, the suspect, 28-year-old Javontee Brice, went to an apartment in Palmetto where his sister and ex-girlfriend were living.
“He looked at his ex-girlfriend and said, ‘I have to kill you.'” “Somehow the sister was able to talk him down and talk him out of shooting his ex-girlfriend,” Wells explained. “She later told investigators that he was acting very strange.”
Wells then drove to a Motel 6 in Bradenton, where his mother, two younger sisters, and the mother’s boyfriend were staying, according to the sheriff.
At 9:00 p.m., “he walked into that hotel room, looked at the mother and said, ‘I’m sorry,'” Wells stated.
“She said, ‘What did you do?'” “And he shoots her three times in front of her boyfriend and these two innocent young children,” Wells said.
Brice then drove to a Palmetto home where one of his cousins was having a BBQ, according to the sheriff. Wells allegedly shot his cousin as she got into her car to leave around 9:40 p.m., according to the sheriff. The 29-year-old relative died around one hour later, according to the sheriff.
Brice then drove to a Bradenton home where another ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend lived, according to the sheriff. According to Wells, Brice reportedly shot and killed his new colleague around 10:04 p.m.
The sheriff’s office reported that it sent out a nationwide “Be on the Lookout” alert for Brice’s car, which was subsequently located in Hamilton County, close to the Georgia border.
Brice “possibly has another ex-girlfriend” in Georgia, and authorities believe he was traveling there to kill her, according to Wells.
When police pulled Brice down in Hamilton County at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, he got out of the car and began firing at cops, according to Wells.
Wells said the officers returned fire, fatally shooting Brice.
According to the sheriff, a woman was with Brice when he was pulled over and is currently being interviewed.
“We don’t know her relationship to him at this point, but she was in the car when the shootout took place,” Wells revealed.
Brice’s family is “devastated” by the killings of his mother and cousin, according to Wells, but investigators plan to interview the relatives to see what Brice “may have been going through the last few days.”
“He seemed to have an agenda; he knew exactly who he wanted to kill and he did not have a hard time locating them,” says Wells.
“We’re not sure what set this man off. “We don’t know why he chose to kill his loved ones,” the sheriff said. “We may never know, but we’re going to continue to investigate.”
