Michael Cohen, the final witness for the prosecution in Donald Trump’s criminal trial, is set to take the stand once again on Monday for his fourth day of testimony. This is expected to be his final appearance in court.
Cohen holds immense importance as the central witness in the case against Trump. He stands alone in testifying that Trump possessed direct knowledge of an alleged plan to manipulate business records, aiming to conceal reimbursements made for a pre-election payment to an adult film star in 2016.
During the recent proceedings, Michael Cohen has endured a grueling seven hours of relentless cross-examination. Throughout this intense questioning, he has been portrayed as a habitual liar with a fixation on Trump, seemingly driven by a desire to profit from the cases against him. Trump’s attorney, Todd Blanche, has made it clear that he still has an hour’s worth of questions left for Cohen.
The prosecutors, who are relying on Cohen’s testimony to secure their case, have additional inquiries for him.
Blanche recently presented the jury with recordings of Cohen discussing Trump on his podcast last year.
“I really hope that this man will end up in prison,” Cohen exclaimed in one clip. “I absolutely want this man to face the consequences and suffer for what he did to my family.”
Cohen has confessed to perjuring himself about the payment of $130,000 in “hush money” to adult film star Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 election. In 2018, Cohen pleaded guilty to federal charges related to this arrangement, including bank fraud and violations of campaign finance laws.
Prosecutors claim that 34 business records were manipulated in order to conceal the payment, and they have presented the jury with evidence such as invoices, vouchers, and checks to support each of the felony charges against Trump. Despite the allegations, the former president maintains his plea of not guilty.
