A mother has taken legal action against an amusement park where her 14-year-old daughter and many others were trapped in an inverted position on a ride for half an hour.
Emergency responders were dispatched to Oaks Park in Oregon on June 14th following a ride malfunction.
The AtmosFEAR ride left around 30 riders trapped and hanging upside down when it malfunctioned. This popular attraction takes riders on a 360-degree swing over the ride’s peak. Unfortunately, it became stuck at the highest point, leaving passengers stranded in mid-air.
The fire crews were focused on bringing down the ride manually, but they were also ready for a high-angle rope rescue if the need arose.
Thrill-seekers were successfully evacuated after crews managed to lower the ride in approximately 30 minutes.
According to KATU, a lawsuit has been filed by Amy Yanotta regarding the incident that resulted in her 14-year-old daughter being stuck.
According to the outlet, Yannotta stated that she believes her daughter and other riders deserve to receive compensation for the mental distress they had to endure.
After the incident, the teenager suffered from abrasions, soreness, and body aches, which were accompanied by increased blood flow to the brain. This resulted in symptoms like dizziness, increased heart rate, and internal pressure. Moreover, the mother revealed that her daughter is currently struggling with post-traumatic stress and anxiety caused by the traumatic event.
According to the mother, many of the children experienced headaches during the initial two days, with Evie’s being particularly severe. However, the intensity of the headaches has gradually decreased over time. Although Evie still feels some soreness in her neck, she has some marks on it from the harness.
According to the lawsuit, the reason for the ride getting stuck was due to the negligence of the park. The lawsuit is seeking up to $125,000 in damages for the incident.
Authorities are currently conducting investigations to determine the cause of the ride’s malfunction.
Yannotta described the event as a traumatic experience, highlighting the fact that the children experienced a range of emotions during the incident. Due to the lack of communication from the park staff, the children were left feeling confused and unsure about the situation.
