Over the weekend, a significant event unfolded in Oklahoma as U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), welcomed U.S. Senator Jack Reed, the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, to various military installations across the state. This visit aimed to provide Senators Mullin and Reed with a deeper understanding of the current needs and future readiness of these installations and their units.
The visit began on Friday, with Senator Mullin accompanying Chairman Reed on visits to several key military installations in Oklahoma. They started at Tinker Air Force Base (AFB), followed by U.S. Army Fort Sill, and Altus AFB. On Saturday, the Senators visited Will Rogers Air National Guard Base and McAlester Army Ammunition Plant.
Senator Mullin expressed his appreciation for Chairman Reed’s bipartisan leadership and highlighted the importance of working together to support the men and women in uniform. He emphasized the value of investing in Oklahoma’s military installations to strengthen both military communities and the nation’s defense capabilities. Chairman Reed, a West Point graduate and Army veteran, praised Oklahoma’s contributions to national security and commended Senator Mullin for his commitment to America’s warfighters.
During their visit to Tinker AFB, the Senators received a briefing on the Air Logistics Complex and the KC-46, along with updates on E-3 operations and the upcoming E-7. At Fort Sill, they discussed lessons from the Ukraine conflict and observed live fire demonstrations. The visit also included discussions on modernization efforts at the Joint Counter UAS University (JCU).
At Altus AFB, Senator Mullin and Chairman Reed received a mission brief from the 97th Air Mobility Wing and visited Hanger 285 and the KC-46 Static. They spoke with Altus leadership about their support for Air Mobility assets and KC-46 manpower.
The Senators concluded their visit on Saturday with a tour of operations at McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, where they were briefed on various operations and toured the MCAAP Multi-Purpose Load Facility (MPLF) and the HAWK Missile site.
Overall, the visit provided Senators Mullin and Reed with valuable insights into the critical role that Oklahoma’s military installations play in national security and the importance of supporting these installations to ensure the readiness of the U.S. military.
