Officials announced that an enraged Lothario, convicted of shooting a 17-year-old girl who rejected his sexual advances at a Brooklyn party, received a 15-year jail sentence.
On Tuesday, Javone Duncan, 24, received a sentence for the needless death of Rae’Lynn Cameron, whom he shot once in the chest at a party in 2022 before leaving her to die.
“This senseless shooting took the life of a young woman with a bright future,” Kings County District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said. “Today’s sentence holds the defendant accountable for his actions and is a measure of justice for the victim’s grieving family.”
In March, a jury found Duncan guilty of manslaughter.
During an impassioned victim impact statement, Cameron’s mother, Cassandra Adams, pleaded for no pity for Duncan, whom she described as stealing “a diamond, a gem, a powerful force” from her family.
“I’ve been beyond words broken since this senseless crime. “Not even a guilty verdict can alleviate the pain I will feel for the rest of my life,” the mother said.
“I never dreamed of being rich because I was already rich with having my children,” she said, explaining how her “beautiful, smart, intelligent, dancing diva” daughter will never be able to grow up to be “the phenomenal woman I raised her to be.”
“Please consider all the consequences and the suffering that we, as the victims and families of the victim, have gone through and continue to go through just because this grown adult made a bad decision.”
Duncan, 22, approached Cameron at a party in East New York in October 2022 and hit on her, but she rebuffed him and urged him to “suck my d-k” as he attempted to make advances, prosecutors alleged following his arrest.
This evidently incensed Duncan, who pulled out a revolver and shot the teen in the chest before fleeing, according to prosecutors.
Duncan pointed his gun at at least one other young woman before shooting her, according to the DA.
His behavior was so atrocious that guests requested that he put his gun away and told him that he was dangerous, according to prosecutors.
