A car accident in California last week claimed the lives of a former campaign worker for former President Barack Obama and her spouse, as confirmed by the police.
Peggy Moore, aged 60, and Hope Wood, aged 48, were riding in a Jeep pickup truck when it crashed into a sedan on Highway 76 near Fallbrook, as reported by NBC Bay Area.
They both lost their lives in the accident.
Tragically, both the 60-year-old driver of the Jeep and the driver of the sedan lost their lives in the devastating accident. However, there was a glimmer of hope as a third passenger in the Jeep managed to survive the incident.
The medical examiner only named Moore as a victim, but tributes shared online later revealed the names of the other victims, including her wife.
Congresswoman Barbara Lee paid tribute to the women in a heartfelt post on X/Twitter.
According to the speaker, she had a close relationship with Moore, describing her as a “friend, activist, and one of the most skilled organizers I’ve ever known.”
In her heartfelt message, she expressed that it was their shared dedication to justice and equality that brought her and Hope together. Through their joint efforts, they were able to organize and inspire others, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive society where one’s freedom is not restricted by whom they love.
According to her, the women have left a lasting impact on our community, city, state, and nation that will be felt for generations to come.
Rusty Hicks, the chair of the California Democratic Party, expressed his deep sadness over the untimely death of Peggy Moore. In a heartfelt post on Twitter, Hicks described Moore as an extraordinary political talent and a valued member of Team CADEM. He emphasized her unwavering passion for organizing and her unwavering dedication to pursuing justice on a daily basis.
Ms. Schaff fondly remembers Moore’s warm and friendly personality. She often encountered Moore while out and about, as it seemed that Moore knew everyone in town.
According to Ms. Schaff, spending time with Peggy meant that every walk would take two hours. Peggy had a remarkable ability to connect with people, as she seemed to know everyone. Her approach to politics was deeply personal, focused on bridging our differences and uplifting our shared hopes. Above all, Peggy believed in the power of love to bring people together.
The friends and family of the couple found solace in the fact that the women passed away immediately and in each other’s presence.
According to her, the notion that her friends and family passed away swiftly and without suffering, and that they departed together, is both shocking and somewhat comforting to many of them.
Moore and Wood crossed paths during their involvement in the 2008 presidential campaign for Mr. Obama.
In 2019, they joined forces to establish the consultancy and coaching firm Hope Action Change, which placed a strong focus on promoting diversity and equality.
Moore’s LinkedIn page reveals that she had been the campaign manager for former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaff, as well as a senior adviser in Ms. Schaff’s office from 2015 to 2017.
During her time, she also served as a general consultant for Diana Betcon’s highly successful campaign for district attorney in Contra Costa County, California.
