Officials have confirmed that the tragic accident in Idaho on Saturday resulted in the loss of six lives. The victims were identified as agricultural workers from Mexico.
According to a news release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, all the occupants of the van were agricultural workers from Mexico. These workers were in the United States on H-2A Temporary Agricultural Worker visas, as reported by the East Idaho News on Thursday.
The victims have been identified by Bonneville County Coroner Rick Taylor as Abel Mejรญa Martรญnez, aged 43, Pedro Manuel Alcantar Mejรญa, aged 26, Brandon Ponce Gallegos, aged 24, Jose Guadalupe Sรกnchez Medina, aged 20, Luis Enrique Sereno Perez, aged 32, and Javier Gomez Alcantar, aged 36.
According to police, the driver of the pickup truck and nine other passengers in the van were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Signet, the company that employed the workers, is currently collecting donations on GoFundMe and has also made a generous contribution of $10,000.
The GoFundMe page stated that the funds raised would be donated to individuals who were injured and to the families of those who tragically lost their lives.
The families of the deceased will be provided assistance by the Mexican Consulate in Boise.
