Emergency officials have confirmed that a highly regarded lifeguard and surfer lost his life in a tragic shark attack off the coast of North Shore, Hawaii.
According to a statement by the Honolulu Emergency Services Department, Tamayo Perry, aged 49, was assaulted while in the water off Goat Island on Sunday afternoon.
According to his coaching site’s official bio, Perry had been a lifeguard with Honolulu Ocean Safety since 2016, and he was also a local surf coach who had competed in the Pipeline Master Trials for years.
According to IMDB, Perry was featured in the 2002 film “Blue Crush” as well as in episodes of “Hawaii Five-O” and “The Bridge.”
According to a statement from Mayor Rick Blangiardi, Perry was recognized as a renowned waterman of the North Shore, who embodied courage, dedication, and a strong sense of responsibility.
The mayor expressed deep gratitude for his valiant acts and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the well-being of our community members and guests. His bravery and dedication shall always be remembered.
According to ABC News, photographer Rafael Domeyko expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of Tomayo, stating that he was truly loved and had undoubtedly performed countless rescues. Domeyko added that he could not fathom the extent of Tomayo’s bravery and selflessness.
Located on the northeastern coast of Oahu, Goat Island can be found just off the shore of Mฤlaekahana beach.
Officials reported that the initial emergency call was received around 1 p.m. on Sunday. Perry’s body was then transported to shore using a jet ski.
