Former Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy (D-R.I.) has publicly endorsed President Biden for the presidency, choosing to support him over his own cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is running as a third-party candidate.
In a recent interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” mental health advocate Kennedy praised President Biden for his unprecedented efforts in prioritizing mental health. Kennedy, discussing his new book “Profiles in Mental Health Courage,” expressed his belief that Biden has proven to be the most supportive president in this regard.
“And to be honest, he has also made significant investments in community mental health initiatives nationwide. Therefore, when it comes to addressing the addiction crisis and the mental health crisis, Joe Biden is the only option. If you are truly concerned about these issues, Joe Biden should be your candidate,” he emphasized.
During the discussion, Dana Bash pointed out that Kennedy’s comments seemed to imply an endorsement, to which Kennedy openly acknowledged that it was indeed an endorsement.
“Absolutely, he is the best, and he has a deep understanding of this issue. It has personally impacted him, and I believe that every American can empathize with Joe Biden because we have all faced similar situations,” he remarked.
In addition, he expressed his concerns about the potential re-election of former President Trump, stating that it poses a significant threat to democracy.
“We must rally everyone to cast their votes in support of Joe Biden and democracy over autocracy,” he emphasized.
The former congressman, who served in the House from 1995 to 2011, is currently dedicated to advocating for individuals facing addiction and mental health challenges through his work with the Kennedy Forum.
