The individual who was found guilty of unlawfully entering the residence of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and assaulting her husband, Paul Pelosi, with a hammer has been given a 30-year prison sentence by federal authorities.
In a statement released on Friday, the Pelosi family expressed their immense pride in their father’s remarkable bravery in saving his own life during the attack and his subsequent testimony in the case. They also conveyed their deep gratitude to everyone who has sent love and prayers throughout Mr. Pelosi’s recovery over the past eighteen months. Speaker Pelosi and her family are truly appreciative of the support they have received.
Christine Pelosi, the daughter of the Pelosis, made an appearance in court on Friday. During the court session, she took the opportunity to read victim impact statements on behalf of her family. This information was reported by San Francisco ABC station KGO.
David DePape faced legal consequences in November 2023 after being found guilty of breaking into and assaulting the Pelosis’ residence in San Francisco on October 28, 2022.
DePape confessed that he had sought out Nancy Pelosi with the intention of questioning her about Russian influence on the 2016 election. He had planned to hold her hostage, but when he broke into her home, only Paul Pelosi was present.
During the trial, DePape expressed remorse for the injury caused to the individual, stating, “I’m sorry that he got hurt.” DePape further explained that their reaction was a result of their plan being essentially ruined.
Prosecutors emphasized that the defendant’s intention to teach violent lessons is not acceptable in our country. Therefore, the imposed sentence by this court must accurately reflect the nature and circumstances of the offense.
According to The Associated Press, DePape’s attorneys requested a 14-year sentence.
DePape, who has pleaded not guilty, is also facing state charges, including attempted murder. His state trial is scheduled to commence on May 22.
