The “Abandon Biden” group is mobilizing Pennsylvania voters before the state’s primary election to express their dissatisfaction with President Biden’s approach to the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Pennsylvania, a crucial swing state in the 2024 general election, has been visited by Biden following his nomination as the Democratic candidate. With its 19 Electoral College votes, Pennsylvania holds significant importance as a battleground in Biden’s re-election campaign against the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee, former President Trump.
Muslim and Arab American voters across the nation are leading the charge in the “Abandon Biden” campaign. This movement, which has gained traction in other key states such as Wisconsin, Arizona, and North Carolina, has garnered significant support in Michigan. In fact, it secured over 13 percent of the vote in the state, representing the voices of more than 100,000 individuals.
The campaign “Abandon Biden” in Pennsylvania is urging residents of the Keystone State to write in “No Joe” as an alternative to voting for Joe Biden. They believe that this write-in option is similar to the “uncommitted” vote seen in previous state contests.
“We urge all individuals who hold strong beliefs to participate in a write-in campaign with the message ‘NO JOE’ or any other statement that aligns with their convictions. This initiative aims to transform our shared frustration into a meaningful expression of democracy,” stated Rabiul Chowdhury, co-chair of Abandon Biden Pennsylvania.
In regards to writing in ‘uncommitted,’ it is clear from our interactions with community members and leaders that there is a strong desire to explore alternatives and express a resounding call for change,” Chowdhury emphasized. “On April 23rd, let your write-in vote serve as your voice in this important conversation, reminding everyone that democracy flourishes through participation and the courage to demand improvement.”
Pennsylvania boasts one of the largest Jewish populations in the country. Moreover, the state is home to a significant Arab American community.
During a campaign event in Florida, Biden expressed his strong opposition to the upcoming six-week abortion ban in the state and linked the matter to Trump.
“Florida is set to implement one of the most stringent anti-abortion laws in the country next week,” President Biden expressed. “This law not only restricts reproductive health care but also criminalizes it before women are even aware of their pregnancy. It is crucial to understand that the individual responsible for this distressing situation is none other than Donald Trump, who not only admits to it but also boasts about it.”
President urges Pennsylvania voters to head to the polls on Tuesday.
In a recent post on the social platform X, Biden emphasized the significance of Pennsylvania’s presidential primary and urged its residents to participate. He stressed that there is too much at stake to simply sit this one out.
In the 2020 election, Biden secured victory in Pennsylvania with a margin of approximately 80,000 votes. In contrast, Trump’s win over Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016 was by a smaller margin of fewer than 45,000 votes.
