On Sunday, gunfire erupted at an apartment complex in Madison, Wisconsin, injuring at least ten people, including a teenager, according to authorities.
Officers were responding to a rooftop party at the Lux condominiums at 12:45 a.m. when dispatch called to report a shooting, according to officials. As they approached the structure, dozens of individuals attempted to flee. During a press conference, Police Chief Shon Barnes stated that a juvenile with several gunshot wounds was bleeding on the street.
Barnes stated during the press conference that they notified the officers that there were likely more victims in the building. “As a result, Madison police officers fearlessly ran up 12 flights of stairs to reach the rooftop, unsure of what they may find. They discovered some people in varying states of despair, with some even hiding in a maintenance closet in an attempt to find refuge.
He claimed it was a miracle that no one had died. Officials stated the victims ranged in age from 14 to 23. Gunshots did not cause all the injuries, but the local fire department reported sending five individuals to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
Some of the injured went to the hospital themselves. According to the police, none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
According to the police, the shooting appeared to be targeted. The officers have yet to make any arrests. Officials have also not issued a description of the shooter. Detectives are currently interviewing victims and witnesses and reviewing digital data, according to authorities.
