James Geloso of Pitman was riding east on a 2004 Honda motorbike when it went off to the left lane and onto the grass median in front of Story Book Land around 11:45 p.m., according to Egg Harbor Township police.
Geloso lost control, collided with a sign support, and flipped the bike on its side. The collision flung both the motorcycle and Geloso into the inside lane of Black Horse Pike.
After the first crash, a witness noticed Geloso and his motorcycle in the travel lane and called 911 to report the downed rider still on the road. A few moments later, while the witness was on the phone with 911 dispatchers, a 63-year-old Egg Harbor Township man driving a 2018 Cadillac XTS collided with Geloso and his bike, which was lying in the road, according to authorities.
The crashes resulted in Geloso’s death at the scene.
The Atlantic County Prosecutors Office, Egg Harbor Township EMS, Cardiff Fire Department, and NJ State Department of Transportation Traffic Incident Team were all on site.
The Traffic Safety Unit’s Ofc. Joe Ricevuto, Ofc. Nick Poletis, and Sgt. Ed Stearns investigated this accident. The investigation is now underway. We diverted traffic in the area for approximately 5 hours to inspect and clear the situation.
