The Fairfax County Police Department has recently disclosed additional information regarding a fatal three-vehicle collision that occurred on Thursday afternoon, resulting in the death of a 23-year-old motorcyclist. The accident caused the closure of Route 28 in Chantilly.
According to investigators, the individual who was riding a 2021 Kawasaki motorcycle and got involved in a crash shortly before 2 p.m. on June 27 has been identified as David Arias Sandoval, a resident of Herndon.
According to investigators, the fatal crash occurred when Sandoval was driving at a high speed in a northerly direction on Route 28. In an attempt to pass a Nissan Rogue, he collided with it, causing debris to fly into a nearby Volkswagen Taos and triggering the tragic incident.
First responders pronounced Sandoval dead at the scene, while the driver of the Nissan was transported to the hospital for treatment and evaluation of injuries that were not life-threatening.
The investigators are currently trying to establish whether the crash was caused due to alcohol consumption. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
