According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Darren Estevez was taken into custody on Sunday, June 23, and is now being held in Florida as a fugitive of justice. He is set to be extradited to New Jersey in connection with an incident that occurred on April 7, which resulted in the death of one man and left two others injured.
On Sunday, April 7th, at 9 p.m., police arrived at the intersection of Central Avenue and Bowers Street in response to a shooting incident. Two individuals were discovered with gunshot wounds at the scene, while the third victim had already taken himself to the University Hospital in Newark.
According to Suarez, Freddie Posey, who was a resident of Jersey City and only 25 years old, was declared dead. Meanwhile, the other two individuals who were involved in the incident, aged 24 and 30, were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.
According to Suarez, Estevez is currently being held in Florida as a fugitive and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey for his involvement in a murder case. Along with murder and conspiracy to commit murder charges, Estevez is facing several weapons offenses and two counts of aggravated assault. The authorities in Florida arrested Estevez on an unrelated matter that led to his capture.
He faced charges in Florida for possessing less than 20 grams of cannabis and making a false report.
According to Suarez, Aaliyah Rivera, a resident of Jersey City and aged 23, had been arrested earlier in April. She was charged with murder as an accomplice for her alleged involvement in the shooting. Currently, she is being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
