According to an arrest affidavit obtained by WSB-TV, Minor found himself at a fellow police officer’s residence and decided to call a Lyft ride shortly after midnight on Wednesday. After getting into the back seat of Reginald Folks’ car and driving down State Road 14, the former police officer claimed that Folks started speaking in a foreign language through the car’s Bluetooth radio. It was at this point that Minor thought he heard another voice, as stated in the affidavit.

According to a witness, Minor signaled for assistance and expressed his belief that his driver was attempting to abduct him. He explained that the driver was motivated by the fact that Minor belonged to a gay fraternity and was trying to recruit him.

According to a report by local Fox affiliate WAGA, Minor turned himself in to Union City police officers upon their arrival. The medical team declared Folks, who was 35 years old, deceased at the scene.

Minor had already taken a leave of absence after being arrested in December 2023 for allegedly crashing his car while carrying 20 unprescribed Xanax pills. The APD had confiscated his agency handgun at that time.

Marchelle Folks, the mother of Folks, shared with NBC affiliate WXIA that her son made the move to Atlanta approximately 12 years ago and had recently pursued a career in professional wrestling. She expressed that her family is devastated by the news.

Reggie’s mother expressed her immense pride in the person he grew up to be, highlighting his ability to effortlessly connect with others. She fondly recalled how he would often bump into acquaintances wherever he went, a testament to his friendly and sociable nature. In fact, Reggie was known as the life of the party, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

Lyft also made a statement regarding the incident.

“We express our deep condolences to Mr. Folks’ family and friends as they face this unimaginable tragedy, and we have already reached out to provide our support during this challenging period. We are fully committed to cooperating with law enforcement in their investigation, and we have taken immediate action by permanently banning the rider’s account from the Lyft community.”

Let’s dive into the conversation.
