According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Darren Estevez was apprehended on Sunday, June 23, and is currently detained in Florida as a fugitive of justice. Estevez is to be extradited to New Jersey for his involvement in an incident on April 7 that resulted in the death of one man and injuries to two others.
On the night of Sunday, April 7th, the police received a distress call from Central Avenue and Bowers Street. Upon arrival, they discovered two victims who had been shot. Meanwhile, the third victim had already taken himself to the University Hospital in Newark.
According to Suarez, two individuals aged 24 and 30 were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while Freddie Posey, a 25-year-old resident of Jersey City, was unfortunately pronounced dead.
According to Suarez, Estevez is currently being held in Florida as a fugitive and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey. He was arrested on an unrelated matter in Orlando. Estevez is facing charges that include murder, conspiracy to commit murder, multiple weapons offenses, and two counts of aggravated assault.
He faced charges in Florida for possessing less than 20 grams of cannabis and providing false information.
According to Suarez, Aaliyah Rivera, a 23-year-old resident of Jersey City, was arrested in April on charges of murder as an accomplice in the shooting. She is currently being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
