The Duke of Sussex is set to make his return to the UK for a special ceremony commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the Invictus Games.
The Invictus Games were established by Prince Harry in 2014 as a sporting event for injured and sick military personnel and veterans. The inaugural games were held in London.
Harry is set to attend the service of thanksgiving at London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral on Wednesday, May 8th. During the event, it is anticipated that he will deliver a reading.
Since 2020, he has resided in the United States alongside his wife, Meghan, who holds the title of Duchess of Sussex, and their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
Harry will be arriving in the UK for the first time since his visit to his father in February, where the announcement of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis was made. Buckingham Palace recently revealed that King Charles will be resuming his public royal duties next week, as he has been responding positively to his cancer treatment.
After a considerable absence from the British events scene, Prince Harry made a highly anticipated comeback to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
It remains uncertain whether any other members of the Royal Family will attend the service, or if the Duchess of Sussex and their children will accompany him.
The service will feature readings from Harry and the British actor Damian Lewis, with the presence of wounded veterans and members of the Invictus community.
The organizers have stated that the event will commemorate “ten years of transforming lives and preserving lives through the power of sports.”
Earlier this month, Harry officially announced his status as a US resident. Travalyst, a travel company under his control, submitted the necessary documents to British authorities to inform them of his relocation and his new “usually resident” status in the United States.
After four years of stepping away from their royal duties and embracing a life in North America, Prince Harry and Meghan have finally received a formal acknowledgement. They first resided in Canada before settling down in Montecito, Southern California.
The decision to move to the United States further highlights the prince’s growing detachment from Britain. In his upcoming memoir, “Spare,” set to be released in 2023, Harry opens up about his complex relationship with his older brother, the Prince of Wales, and expresses various grievances within the family.
Harry has rarely returned to Britain since he left, mainly for significant events like the funeral of Queen Elizabeth in 2022 and his father’s coronation in May 2023.
