Queen Rania al Abdullah of Jordan made a passionate appeal on Sunday, urging the international community to exercise their “political leverage” in order to pressure Israel into allowing more aid into Gaza and putting an end to the ongoing war.
During a pre-recorded interview on CBS News’s “Face the Nation,” moderator Margaret Brennan highlighted that President Biden had previously cautioned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about potential changes in U.S. policy if Israel’s tactics remained unchanged. Queen Rania was asked for her perspective on whether she believes the United States is now beginning to exert its influence.
“There has certainly been a noticeable shift in the tone and language used. The President has made consistent efforts to caution and persuade Netanyahu against entering Rafah. However, it is disheartening to witness Israeli officials repeatedly disregarding the warnings and advice offered by their allies,” she expressed.
According to her, it is crucial for the global community, including the United States, to utilize their political influence to exert pressure on Israel and bring an end to the conflict, allowing humanitarian aid to reach the affected areas.
Israel has been increasing the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza in recent weeks. However, global leaders stress that additional support is necessary to prevent famine in the strip.
Queen Rania’s remarks arrive in the midst of discussions about a potential cease-fire, with Secretary of State Antony Blinken and other U.S. officials urging Hamas officials to agree to the terms of a cessation of hostilities.
