Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) defended her endorsement of former President Trump on Sunday, despite previously criticizing the GOP presidential candidate. According to Mace, the country has been worse off in the past three-and-a-half years under President Biden.
“Well, after almost four years of Joe Biden, it wasn’t that difficult to watch and see ballots being cast across the country, seeing the overwhelming support that Donald Trump has within the party,” Mace told NewsNation on “The Hill Sunday.”
NewsNation host Blake Burman highlighted that the South Carolina Republican’s support for Trump had shifted since he lost the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 Capitol uprising. Shortly after the rebellion, Mace stated that the Republican Party needed to be “rebuilt” and that Trump’s “entire legacy had been wiped out.”
When Burman suggested Mace could have endorsed someone else for the primary, she responded, “We’ve had three-and-a-half years of Joe Biden now, and it’s pretty easy.”
“We’ve had two back-to-back presidencies, and we were all safer, we were more prosperous, wages were better, and inflation was lower under Donald Trump,” she went on. “There were no endless conflicts like there are today.” Hamas, Russia, and the Houthis did not invade Israel, Ukraine, or bomb US military assets in the Middle East. So we were all better off with Donald Trump as president, and that’s what we’re seeing now: “People want Joe Biden out.”
Mace appeared to reconcile with the insurgency and Trump’s role in the tragedy earlier this year, embracing the former president’s reelection bid in January.
Despite not having a perfect alignment with any candidate, Mace expressed during her endorsement that it was time to “unite behind our nominee.”
“To be honest, it’s been a complete disaster since he left the White House. “Our country needs to reverse all of the damage Joe Biden has done,” she said on the social media platform X in January.
