Republican Senator Marco Rubio from Florida is adding his voice to the criticism of President Biden’s executive order aimed at restricting asylum at the southern border. Rubio has described the plan as a “joke” that will have little impact on reducing the number of border crossings, even if it is executed completely.
Critics on the conservative side have been pointing fingers at the administration for their lack of efforts to control the influx of migrants into the country. This order was announced after the Senate Republicans blocked a bipartisan border legislation for the second time.
Customs and Border Protection reported 179,725 encounters by Border Patrol agents along the U.S.-Mexico border in April.
Upon learning of the action, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) promptly issued a statement indicating their intent to challenge it in court.
Marco Rubio, who is considered as a possible running mate for former President Trump in 2024, has been stepping up his criticism of President Biden by referring to him as a “demented man.”
