Tennessee authorities have made a significant breakthrough in their pursuit of one of the state’s most wanted fugitives. They have successfully apprehended the suspect in connection with the death of a man who had been missing for several months. The victim’s remains were discovered entombed in a freezer, concealed within a 17-acre plot of land located in a secluded area of Tennessee.
Jim Chambers, aged 37, has been apprehended in Louisiana for the alleged murder of Edward Elliott, aged 64, as confirmed by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) in a recent news release. The Carter County Sheriff’s Office and TBI had been actively searching for Chambers on charges of first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence.
Police started looking for the person after they reported them missing on March 31. Someone who knows Elliott, who is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds, said he was last seen in the Roan Mountain area in late January or early February. They made the missing persons sign at this time.
Last seen wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt with the arms cut off, the injured person was in critical condition. He had a health problem that the officials said could make it unsafe for him to return without help.
On May 15, police were searching a house at 125 Mike Clawson Road in Hampton based on a tip when a corpse dog picked up the smell of a dead body. The ground held a fridge containing Elliott’s body parts.
In a press conference at the time, Carter County Sheriff Mike Fraley stated, “We dug up a box and found a body in that small freezer.”
Local CBS/ABC station WJHL said in a statement that a witness saw two men “violently kicking” Elliott while the victim begged them to stop in January or February.
Shortly after the discovery of Elliott’s body, authorities apprehended and charged the first suspect.
Chambers was one of Tennessee’s most wanted criminals on the run. This week, with the help of the FBI New Orleans Office, the Louisiana State Police, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, he was found in Louisiana.
The defendant was supposed to be sent from Louisiana to Carter County, and a preliminary hearing is set for June 5 for the second guy.
