According to reports, Suri Cruise has followed in the footsteps of other famous offspring by removing her father’s surname from her own.
On June 21, the 18-year-old graduated from high school with her famous mother, Katie Holmes, accompanying her. The ceremony was held at the United Palace Theater in Manhattan, and photos obtained by Page Six showed the Dawson’s Creek star celebrating the milestone with her teenage daughter.
Suri looked radiant for the occasion in a beautiful white sundress, which she wore under her bright red graduation robes. Holmes also looked equally stunning in a light yellow pleated pants set and a collared long-sleeve shirt that perfectly matched with Suri’s outfit.
Various media sources reported that during her school’s graduation ceremony, Suri was listed as “Suri Noelle” instead of “Suri Cruise.” The report from Page Six even included a picture of the graduation program, credited to Backgrid, which had “Suri Noelle” circled. It is believed that this name is a nod to her mother, who has Noelle as her middle name and is 45 years old.
On the weekend of her high school graduation, Suri’s father, Tom Cruise, attended Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour at London’s Wembley Stadium on June 22, alongside other notable guests. Cruise and Holmes, who got married in November 2006, ended their marriage in June 2012 after being together for five years. The former couple was blessed with their only child in April 2006.
In a viral TikTok video earlier this month, the 18-year-old hinted at her college plans. Alongside her high school classmates, Suri showcased her college sweater in the now-deleted clip. Suri was seen wearing a red sweatshirt with the name of her new alma mater, Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It seems that she will be heading there in the fall.
It is currently unclear whether Suri’s decision to change her name to “Suri Noelle” is a permanent and legal change or a professional choice. Nonetheless, this change comes at a time when many celebrity children, including the offspring of actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, are opting to drop their famous last names.
In a recent report by People, it was revealed that Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, the 15-year-old daughter of Jolie and Pitt, was listed as “Vivienne Jolie” in the Playbill program for the Broadway show, The Outsiders. This news came just a few weeks after her older sister, Shiloh, legally requested to drop “Pitt” from her last name on her 18th birthday, according to documents obtained by TMZ.
A video that went viral showed that Zahara, the 19-year-old daughter of the former couple, was introduced by her university sorority as Zahara Marley Jolie, without the inclusion of her father’s last name.
Amidst rumors of Brad Pitt’s alleged estrangement from his children and the ongoing legal dispute over the ownership of the Château Miraval winery in France, the Hollywood actor has made some changes to his name. The former husband of Angelina Jolie and co-star of the movie “Mr & Mrs Smith” split from Jolie in 2016 after being together for 12 years and married for two. They have six children together, including sons Maddox, Pax, and Knox, who are 22, 20, and 15 years old, respectively.
