According to the NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, the identity of the perpetrator is Christian Inga, a 25-year-old man hailing from Corona. Inga is originally from Ecuador and arrived in the United States on June 25, 2021, entering through Eagle Pass, Texas. It has been reported that Inga has two children, one of whom is a six-year-old child that he brought with him while crossing the border.
Among the charges he is facing are rape, robbery, kidnapping, sex abuse, menacing, unlawful imprisonment, acting in a manner injurious to a child, and criminal possession of a weapon. The list is quite extensive and paints a grim picture of the accusations against him.
According to officials, the reason for the suspect’s arrest was due to several tips from individuals on social media and in the local community who identified him from the “crystal clear” surveillance footage released by the NYPD on Monday. However, the final outcome was a result of community members taking action and apprehending him in a tumultuous incident that occurred in Corona early Tuesday morning.
In the wee hours of Tuesday morning, the police were alerted by concerned citizens via 911 calls to head to the intersection of 108th Street and Waldron Street. Upon arriving, Sergeant Kenny was gratified to discover that the community had already taken matters into their own hands and apprehended the perpetrator. Despite the perpetrator putting up a fight, the community managed to hold him down until the police arrived.
According to Kenny, a group of “at least 10 people from the neighborhood” played a part in capturing him, and it seems that they utilized a belt in an attempt to prevent him from escaping.
Kenny revealed that the perpetrator’s identity was not a mystery to the authorities as they had received numerous tips that named him. When the community spotted him on the street, they attempted to apprehend him and even called 911. However, the culprit resisted and got into a physical altercation with the community members who were trying to hold him. As a result, he sustained some minor injuries.
According to Kenny, Inga has never been arrested in New York State, but he has received three summonses. In addition, there was a domestic violence incident in the 107th Precinct that did not result in an arrest. However, he does have one prior arrest in Texas.
In the video shown to him after waiving his Miranda rights, he admitted that he had a drug problem and that he had found the knife used to threaten the teenagers. He further claimed that this was the first time he had ever engaged in such an act, as per Kenny’s account.
According to Kenny, the two young victims played a crucial role in providing the information that ultimately led to the identification of the suspect. Moreover, after the police released the surveillance video on Monday, they received numerous tips from the public.
Kenny stated that they received useful information regarding the perpetrator’s identity through social media. The tips included the perpetrator’s name and his Facebook account, which provided pictures of him wearing the same clothing he had on during the crime. Additionally, they were able to obtain pictures of him that clearly showed the distinguishable tattoo on his chest.
According to the chief, a landlord provided a tip stating that the man had attempted to rent a room in his building about two weeks prior.
The local community was left in shock by the dreadful attack that occurred last Thursday afternoon, which prompted a strong response from the police. They have vowed to find the perpetrator, whom they have described as a “monster” and an “animal,” and are now scouring the globe to bring justice to the victims.
In the wake of the attack, the NYPD has announced a $10,000 reward for any leads that may aid in the capture of the perpetrator. They have also promised to utilize all available resources in their investigation, including forensics and a computer analysis of recent criminal activity in the vicinity.
According to the police, a young boy and girl were walking in a field near Colden Street and Kalmia Avenue at 3 p.m. after school when a man in his 20s, with a heavy Spanish accent, appeared with a machete-style knife. The man forced the two friends into a wooded area and demanded that they remain quiet.
After realizing they were in danger, the two teenagers immediately sought help at a nearby school. The staff at the school quickly called 911, which resulted in a prompt and thorough investigation by the police. The response from law enforcement was massive and swift, ensuring the safety of those involved.
According to the NYPD, the suspect’s DNA may be present on two items found at the scene – a shoelace that was used to tie the children’s hands together and a water bottle that he possibly left behind. The suspect is also believed to have a unique tattoo of a boar with red eyes on his chest.
During a press conference on Friday, the NYPD leadership described the assault as “satanic” and a “nightmare for parents.” NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell pledged that the department would take all necessary steps to apprehend the perpetrator, referring to them as an “animal” that needs to be removed from the streets.
