Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced on Wednesday, July 3, that Michael Vulpis, aged 26, was apprehended at his residence in Freehold. The arrest was made in relation to the June 27 occurrence in Jackson Township.
According to Billhimer, a blue sedan pulled up in front of a parked car on Larsen Road, where a 27-year-old victim and a female were seated. The parked vehicle was subsequently blocked by the sedan.
After sustaining injuries, the victim received medical attention at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. He was treated and later discharged from the hospital.
After an extensive investigation, Vulpis was identified as the individual responsible for the shooting and was subsequently arrested in Freehold. He faced multiple charges, including Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and being a Certain Person Not to Possess a Weapon or Ammunition.
A detention hearing is pending for him as he remains lodged in the Ocean County Jail.
Several law enforcement agencies collaborated in the investigation, including the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Emergency Response Team, Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Jackson Township Police Department, Jackson Township Police Department Detective Bureau, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Freehold Township Police Department, and Freehold Borough Police Department.
