A deceased female skier was found by park rangers at the base of Pebble Creek’s Moraine Falls above Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park.
After setting out on a ski tour above Paradise on May 18, the missing skier had been searched for by the Rangers. She was last heard from on that day and efforts were made to locate her.
As per the National Park Service, an individual who seemed to have fallen around 200 feet to the bottom of a waterfall was discovered by the park’s contracted helicopter. The person was unresponsive at the time of discovery.
According to the NPS, the recovery teams were at risk due to the large, unstable snow moat surrounding the area which was prone to rock and ice fall.
According to the NPS, using traditional crevasse rescue techniques, the Rangers were able to retrieve the body during a period of favorable weather.
After the body was found in the park, it was transported to Kautz Creek Helibase by the park’s contract helicopter for evaluation by the Pierce County Medical Examiner.
