The Republican National Committee’s Washington headquarters faced a temporary evacuation on Wednesday. This evacuation occurred due to a police investigation surrounding two vials of blood. Interestingly, these vials had been specifically addressed to former President Donald Trump. This incident took place after Trump assumed control of the national party apparatus.
The U.S. Capitol Police have called in hazardous-materials teams to handle the situation after the discovery of the vials. They are currently investigating the incident to determine if anyone had come into contact with the blood and the identity of the blood’s owner remains unclear.
Trump has solidified his control over the national party with his chosen leaders. Lara Trump, his daughter-in-law, now serves as the party’s national vice chair, while Michael Whatley, former North Carolina GOP Chairman, is the RNC chairman. Additionally, Chris LaCivita, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, has assumed the role of RNC chief of staff. With these appointments, Trump has further cemented his influence within the party as he moves closer to securing his third consecutive GOP presidential nomination.
Less than two months before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where Trump is set to become the party’s official 2024 nominee, there is concern about potential protests. In a letter to the Secret Service, RNC counsel Todd Steggerda requested increased security measures to keep protesters at a greater distance from the event venue. The current plan is seen as posing a significant safety risk to the attending public.
