Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) avoided addressing a question on Sunday regarding former President Trump’s unfounded allegations that he faced imminent danger during the FBI raid on his Florida residence last year. This response comes as the South Carolina Republican seeks to become the former president’s running mate in the upcoming November election.
In a recent statement, Trump claimed that the FBI was fully prepared to apprehend him during their search of his Mar-a-Lago estate for classified documents. However, these remarks were swiftly criticized by the Department of Justice and Democrats.

During an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union” on Sunday, Scott was asked about the language issue. However, he did not directly address the question. Bash pointed out that President Biden had also encountered a similar situation regarding classified documents.
Attorney General Merrick Garland criticized Trump’s remarks from last week as “extremely dangerous.” Garland emphasized that Trump was merely explaining the standard FBI policy regarding searches.
Bash pressed Scott for a response, highlighting remarks made by former Trump advisor Steve Bannon, who referred to the investigation as an “assassination attempt.” Scott evaded the question once again.
Scott criticized the treatment of Joe Biden by the justice system, expressing concern about his inability to stand before a jury of his peers due to his age and deteriorating memory. He emphasized that this kind of justice system does not align with the expectations of the American people.
“It’s incredibly challenging to witness the current justice system that appears to be biased against both Donald Trump and Republicans,” he stated. “The way Joe Biden and his family have been handled with kid gloves and protected is unfair. We all desire fairness, especially when it comes to Lady Justice wearing a blindfold. Unfortunately, we’re not witnessing that fairness, Dana.”
Republicans, with Trump at the helm, frequently assert that the Department of Justice demonstrates bias in its treatment of Democrats. However, it is worth noting that even within the Democratic party, there are instances where federal indictments have been brought against members, such as Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) and Representative Henry Cuellar (D-Texas).
Scott is being considered as a finalist for Trump’s vice-presidential candidate. After being a primary rival to Trump, Scott has transformed into one of his most vocal supporters in the media. He frequently appears on Sunday shows to defend the former president.
