In a recent statement, Donald Trump recommended that President Joe Biden undergo a cognitive test. However, he seemed to be confused about who conducted the test on him as he misspoke in the following sentence.
During his presidential campaign, the previous leader and expected Republican nominee made a verbal blunder by mispronouncing the name of Texas Republican Representative Ronny Jackson, who served as the White House physician for a period during his presidency. Trump mistakenly referred to Jackson as “Ronny Johnson” while criticizing Biden’s mental sharpness, a topic he frequently brings up during rallies and on social media.
During a speech at a convention of Turning Point Action in Detroit, the former president criticized Biden by stating, “He doesn’t even know what the word ‘inflation’ means. I think he should take a cognitive test like I did.”
In a matter of seconds, he proceeded by introducing Doc Ronny Johnson, a Texas congressman who formerly served as the White House physician. The former president proudly proclaimed that Johnson regarded him as the healthiest president in history, instantly endearing the doctor to him.
In 2021, Jackson secured a seat in Congress and has since been recognized as one of Trump’s staunchest supporters in Capitol Hill.
As Trump celebrated his 78th birthday on Friday, he continued to make questioning Biden’s ability to serve a second term a focal point of his campaign. However, his Saturday night slip-up did not go unnoticed by online critics. The Biden campaign, which has faced criticism over the President’s verbal blunders in the past, wasted no time in sharing a clip of the moment.
Back in 2018, Trump requested to take a cognitive test, as revealed by Jackson to the reporters. The test aims to identify any initial indications of memory loss or mild cognitive impairment.
During Trump’s assessment, he was required to complete various tasks that assess cognitive abilities, such as remembering a list of spoken words, repeating a list of random numbers in reverse order, listing as many words starting with a specific letter within a minute, accurately drawing a cube, and identifying similarities between two objects, such as a train and a bicycle. These are all part of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment.
According to reports, Trump stated that he had to recall and correctly repeat a sequence of words in a particular order, which were “Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV.”
In his address in Detroit, Trump mentioned a viral video clip that has been making rounds in Republican circles. The video shows Biden observing skydivers landing with flags from various nations during the recently concluded Group of Seven summit in Italy.
In a video clip, Biden can be seen briefly stepping away from the group of leaders, turning his back, and walking in the opposite direction. He gives a thumbs-up, although it’s unclear who he’s gesturing to. However, a different angle of the same moment reveals that the president had turned to face a skydiver who had just landed.
Even though the video clip showed something completely different, Trump still took advantage of the situation and lied about Biden turning around “to look at trees”. This caused the crowd to erupt in laughter and cheers, even though it was based on false information.
In response to the clip circulating online, the Biden campaign has released a statement denouncing it as misleadingly cropped. The campaign further accused those responsible for spreading the video of tampering with it to create false claims.
