Netflix announced on Wednesday that they will be broadcasting two games on Christmas Day this year, as well as at least one game on the holiday for the next two years.
The Christmas Day games did not have any matchups announced before the complete schedule for 2024 was released on Wednesday night. However, the four teams participating this year will have the unique opportunity to play regular-season games on a Wednesday, which is quite uncommon.
“We are thrilled that the NFL’s Christmas Day games will exclusively be available on Netflix,” expressed Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s chief content officer. “There are no other live annual events, whether in sports or otherwise, that can rival the immense audience that NFL football attracts.”
Netflix will be airing an NFL game for the first time.
In the 2023 season, three games were played on Christmas, which occurred on a Monday.
“The NFL has turned its Christmas games into a cherished tradition, and teaming up with Netflix, a platform that thrives on this festive season, is a winning combination to expand this event’s global reach for NFL enthusiasts,” stated Hans Schroeder, NFL executive vice president of media distribution.
The NFL will unveil the complete 2024 schedule during a special broadcast on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET. ESPN2 will air the two-hour program, which will also be available for streaming on ESPN+.
