Kaitlyn Chen, the former Ivy League Player of the Year, announced on social media Sunday that she has committed to UConn as a transfer from Princeton.
Chen has spent the last three seasons under former UConn star Carla Berube, earning first-team all-Ivy honors in 2023 and 2024. The senior, whose freshman season in 2020โ21 was postponed due to the COVID-19 epidemic, was unable to use her final year of eligibility at Princeton, as Ivy League rules prohibit graduate students from participating in sports.
Last season, the 5-foot-9 guard from San Marino, California, averaged 15.8 points, 4.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, earning her a WBCA honorable mention All-American award. She averaged 16.2 points per game the previous season, when she was named Ivy League Player of the Year.
Chen helped the Tigers win three Ivy League tournament crowns, earning Most Outstanding Player each time, and make three NCAA tournament berths. The Tigers have won at least a share of the Ivy League championship in each of the last six seasons.
Chen’s arrival makes up for the Huskies’ loss of Nika Muhl to the WNBA. UConn still has a solid backcourt, including 2021 national player of the year Paige Bueckers, rising sophomore KK Arnold, and Azzi Fudd, among others.
