Heavy rainfall overnight and early Sunday morning caused flooding in several South Jersey shore towns, including Ocean City. CBS reported the unfortunate news.
Meteorologist Andrew Kozak reported that the shore experienced thunderstorms that resulted in a rainfall of 2 to 6 inches overnight. There are predictions of even more storms and severe weather for Sunday afternoon and evening.

The Margate Police Department took to Facebook to remind drivers not to attempt to cross flooded roads and provided a list of areas that are prone to flooding. They emphasized the importance of respecting barricades and not attempting to drive past them.
Multiple intersections at Winchester Avenue in Margate were submerged in water, resulting in the need for two cars to be towed out of the high water.
During her visit from Pittsburgh, Jillian Hauser expressed concern about the well-being of her SUV.
She recounted, “As soon as I emerged, I exclaimed, ‘Oh no, my car is submerged in water!’ The water level had surpassed my lug nuts.”
Luckily, Hauser was able to retrieve her car without any complications. However, according to locals, this flood was not unexpected and occurs frequently during heavy storms.
Jack Willard, a Margate resident, emphasized the importance of monitoring the weather and tides. “You have to keep an eye on the weather and tides. If there’s going to be a storm, we park a little further west,” he said.
A video that was shared on X (formerly Twitter) depicts the extent of the flooding that occurred in Ocean City. The footage shows a pickup truck driver rescuing a partially submerged sedan from a flooded road. The severity of the situation can be observed from the video.
In Ocean City, flooded streets did not deter some individuals from enjoying a unique experience of paddle boarding. People were spotted paddling along the flooded streets, taking advantage of the unusual opportunity presented by the situation.
Traffic was disrupted at 24th Street in Ocean City due to flooding, which resulted in the closure of certain sections of the road.
Mullica Hill resident Brian King shared that while their home remained unscathed by the floodwaters, a friend who was supposed to visit ended up getting their car stuck.
King expressed disappointment as he shared, “We were only able to clear out about two inches of water from the floor, but unfortunately, the problem persists, and it’s still not starting.”
Steak Out, the breakfast and lunch restaurant in Sea Isle, recently shared a video showing the submerged streets and sidewalks in the area.
As Sunday night’s storms approach, the biggest concerns are the potential for destructive winds, intense rainfall that may worsen flash flooding, and the possibility of a solitary tornado. South Jersey is expected to be impacted by these storms between the hours of 6 and 10 p.m. It is important to stay alert and informed regarding any updates or warnings from local authorities.
