According to EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan, President Biden is committed to ensuring that every child has the chance to live a healthy life and breathe clean air. This goal is at the heart of his Investing in America agenda.
In September 2023, the EPA made an exciting announcement regarding its 2023 Clean School Bus rebates. They revealed that there would be a substantial amount of money available, at least $500 million, for this program. The response from school districts across the nation looking to purchase electric and clean school buses was outstanding, with an overwhelming demand, especially from low-income communities, Tribal nations, and U.S. territories. Due to this high demand, the EPA decided to double the funding, increasing it to nearly $1 billion. The rebate application period closed in February 2024, and the increased funding is expected to make a significant impact on promoting cleaner and more sustainable transportation for schools.
The third round of funding aims to expand on the previous investment of almost $2 billion through the 2022 Rebates and 2023 Grants. The goal is to enhance air quality in and around schools, decrease greenhouse gas pollution that contributes to the climate crisis, and support the advancement of clean vehicles to solidify America’s position as a leader in this field.
