State officials report that a truck struck and overturned a bus carrying 53 farmworkers on West Highway 40 in central Florida, killing eight people.
The Florida Highway Patrol detained the truck driver, Bryan Maclean Howard, on eight counts of driving under the influence-manslaughter.

Around 6:35 a.m., the 2010 International Bus and Howard’s 2001 Ford Ranger pickup were traveling opposite directions when the truck swerved into the center line and the cars collided “in a sideswiped manner,” according to officials.
According to officials, the bus drove off West Highway 40, passed through a fence, and then flipped.
The bus was on its way to a farm in the area when it crashed, Riordan said.
According to Mexican Foreign Affairs Secretary Alicia Bárcena, some of the farm workers who died in the accident were Mexican. The Mexican consulate in Orlando stated that it is providing assistance to those affected.
