A group of lawyers has decided to step down from representing a Utah mother who is facing charges of using fentanyl to murder her husband. Additionally, the accused mother has also written a children’s book that explores the themes of loss and grief.
Kouri Richins’ private attorneys decided to withdraw from the case due to an undisclosed “irreconcilable and nonwaivable situation.” This decision was made clear in a court filing where they requested to be relieved from their duties. After a closed hearing on Monday, the request was granted by Utah district court Judge Richard Mrazik in Salt Lake City.
As of Tuesday, no new attorney had come forward to represent Richins, who has been unwavering in her claim of innocence. This development could potentially delay the progress of her case.
Richins is being accused by prosecutors of engaging in covert financial transactions and purchasing illicit drugs, all while her husband started to grow suspicious of her behavior.
After the death of her husband, Richins took it upon herself to self-publish a heartwarming storybook called “Are You With Me?” The book beautifully depicts a father with angel wings, watching over his young son. This unexpected tragedy left Richins as a single mother to their three children. However, her book has garnered much praise for its ability to assist children in coping with the loss of a beloved family member.
True-crime enthusiasts have been captivated by the case of a formerly beloved author who was arrested a year ago for allegedly profiting from her own violent crime.
According to court documents, Kouri Richins was in a difficult financial situation when her husband passed away. She had a negative bank account balance, owed lenders over $1.8 million, and was facing a lawsuit from a creditor.
