A Virginia tech company faced a fine from the DOJ after it posted a job listing that explicitly sought only white candidates, according to a news release by the Department on Thursday. In March 2023, Arthur Grand Technologies began advertising for “U.S. Born Citizens [white] who are local within 60 miles from Dallas, TX [Don’t share with candidates],” with the brackets remaining in place. Following an investigation that commenced in May 2023, the Department concluded that Arthur Grand had engaged in discrimination based on citizenship status and national origin. The investigation revealed that a recruiter from Arthur Grand’s subsidiary in India had posted the advertisement on the job website Indeed. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke expressed her dismay, calling it “shameful” that executives were still implementing segregationist policies in the 2020s. She also voiced her agreement with the public’s outrage towards this “appalling and discriminatory” action. The DOJ did not disclose the specific amount of the fine imposed on Arthur Grand.
