Solar cell tariffs were introduced in 2018 during the presidency of Donald Trump. In 2022, President Biden extended these tariffs.
In a recent development, EV tariffs have been introduced following President Biden’s directive to investigate Chinese-made vehicles with internet connectivity. This investigation, which was announced in February, includes electric vehicles as an integral part of the probe.
Some Democrats have opposed the administration’s stance on EVs. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), who is one of the Democrats facing a tough reelection, has explicitly called for a complete ban on Chinese EVs in the United States.
