Police continued their search for the suspect on Tuesday, charging him with first-degree premeditated murder. The alleged crime involved the shooting and killing of his ex-wife, Amber Rodriguez, outside Wiley Elementary School on Monday afternoon.

According to authorities, there was a potential sighting of Huizar in Portland, Oregon during the night. A clerk at a convenience store contacted 911 around 1 a.m., stating that Huizar had visited the store to buy a drink and had a child with him in the backseat of a black sedan. Although officers promptly responded, they were unable to find Huizar, the child, or the vehicle until the following afternoon.

According to an official confirmation, Huizar worked as a substitute teacher for the Richland School District from November 2021 to June 2023.

Huizar worked as a police officer in Yakima, Washington, from June 2013 to February 2022, according to the department. He resigned after facing discipline, as stated by a spokesperson for the department. The department has not provided any details regarding the nature of the discipline.
