On Sunday, officials reported that a gunman in Louisiana engaged in a fatal standoff with law enforcement, resulting in three police officers sustaining injuries.
Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley and Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joseph Lopinto reported that at around 9:45 a.m. local time, authorities responded to a shooting incident outside a residence in the 700 block of Farm Avenue.
Officials said that the residence was owned by a family member of Michael Lathers, 31, who was being sought for an attempted murder and armed robbery that had taken place earlier in the week in Kenner.
According to the statement, during a confrontation with Lathers, three Kenner police officers sustained injuries while Lathers was fatally shot by a deputy from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Lopinto and Conley stated in their statement that they made several unsuccessful attempts to contact Lathers in order to initiate negotiations.
According to officials, the injured officers were taken to a nearby hospital and are currently in stable condition.
According to the statement, Lathers was pronounced dead at the scene.
