Around 4 p.m., hundreds of people gathered in Fort Greene to initiate the protests, with the intention of marching near the Barclays Center.

A few individuals went as far as climbing the building and displaying a massive banner from the rooftop that proclaimed, “Free Palestine. Divest from genocide.”

According to the Brooklyn Museum, they did not contact the NYPD, but law enforcement officers arrived at the location and engaged with protesters, resulting in several arrests.

According to a statement from the museum, the artwork on their plaza, both existing and newly installed, was damaged during the protests. Additionally, the museum’s public safety staff faced physical and verbal harassment from the protesters as they entered the building.

The museum decided to close an hour earlier than usual due to concerns about the safety of the building, the valuable collections, and the well-being of the museum staff.

The police have reported that the organization responsible for the protest has coordinated multiple demonstrations, including one near the Met Gala in May.

On the same day, President Joe Biden announced that Israel has presented a new proposal for a cease-fire. Meanwhile, Israel is intensifying its advance into Rafah, a city located in southern Gaza.

According to Mr. Biden, Israel has put forward a comprehensive new proposal that serves as a roadmap towards achieving a lasting cease-fire and the release of all hostages. This proposal has been conveyed to Hamas through Qatar.

The Israel Day on Fifth Parade, a longstanding annual event, is fast approaching and is expected to draw significant attention. However, there are concerns regarding potential security threats. According to an internal threat assessment obtained by CBS New York, there is a possibility that the parade could become a target for an act of mass violence or disruption.

Israel is currently experiencing increasing international criticism due to the loss of Palestinian lives and the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.
