An excessive cargo detached from an 18-wheeler on Saturday and pinned a vehicle beneath it near Temple, Texas, killing two people and critically injuring one.
At 11:20 a.m., emergency workers discovered a 350,000-pound weight on top of a vehicle carrying three people at the crossroads of Highway 36 and 317, according to Temple Fire & Rescue’s Facebook page. They also dispatched the Temple Police Department to the scene.
It took four hours for EMS to securely extract the driver from the vehicle. Authorities told USA TODAY that they airlifted him to Baylor Scott & White Health due to potentially fatal injuries.
