While performing at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Mick Jagger, the frontman of The Rolling Stones, couldn’t resist making a playful comment about Louisiana’s conservative governor.
During Thursday evening’s set, the band wrapped up their performance of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” and that’s when Jagger took a moment to address the audience about the importance of inclusion. According to reports from New Orleans news outlets, Jagger specifically mentioned Gov. Jeff Landry, expressing the band’s desire to include him as well, even if he holds views that may seem regressive.
Jagger avoided discussing any particular policies, while Landry, a Republican, received an endorsement from former President Donald Trump. Landry, who previously served as the state attorney general, assumed the role of governor in January. Throughout his career, he has shown support for contentious conservative legislation and initiatives, such as a nearly complete abortion ban, the prohibition of gender-affirming medical care for young transgender individuals, and the implementation of stricter sentences for crimes.
Landry responded to Jagger’s comments on social media with a clap back.
“You can’t always get what you want,” he wrote on X. “The only person who might remember the Stone Age is Mick Jagger. I love you, buddy. You’re always welcome in Louisiana!”
Landry, who is 53 years old, concluded her post with the hashtag #LoveMyCountryMusic.
