According to reports from ESPN, Scheffler allegedly drove past the police who were on site due to the roadblocks and confusion surrounding the accident.

Scheffler was set free from jail after going through the necessary procedures at around 8:40 a.m. local time. He made it back to the course just an hour before his scheduled tee time at 10:08 a.m. Despite the challenging rainy weather, he managed to shoot an impressive 6-under 66. By the time he completed his round, he had climbed up the leaderboard and secured a spot in the top 5.

According to eyewitness Jeff Darlington, an ESPN reporter, a police officer tried to connect himself to Scheffler’s car. Subsequently, Scheffler halted his vehicle at the Valhalla entrance. The officer then yelled at Scheffler to exit the car. Upon complying, Scheffler was forcefully pushed against the vehicle and promptly handcuffed. Presently, he is being held in the back of a police car.

According to the police report, Scheffler declined to obey the police officer’s instruction to stop and instead “accelerated forward,” causing the detective to be pulled to the ground. As a result, the officer experienced pain, swelling, and abrasions on his left wrist and knee. The report also states that the detective’s uniform pants, which were valued at around $80, were irreparably damaged.

According to the police report, Scheffler is now facing charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.

The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office is currently gathering information in Scheffler’s case and will review it before deciding on the next steps, according to a statement from spokesperson Josh Abner on Friday afternoon.

Scheffler is set to appear in court on Tuesday morning for his arraignment.

“I still can’t believe what just happened,” Scheffler expressed in a press conference following his round. “It’s hard to put into words. I actually had a unique warmup experience this morning โ€“ stretching in a jail cell. It was definitely a first for me. I was sitting there waiting, and I decided to start going through my normal warmup routine. I had a feeling that I might still have a chance to come out here and play, so I did everything I could to get my heart rate down before the round.”

The PGA of America expressed their utmost concern for the family of John Mills, who tragically lost his life this morning while on his way to work. They are fully cooperating with local authorities as they investigate the incident involving Scottie Scheffler. During this time, any inquiries should be directed to Scheffler’s attorney or the local authorities.

The LMPD Traffic Unit is currently investigating the incident, and so far, there haven’t been any reports of additional injuries.

At the age of 27, Scheffler has had an extraordinary year on the tour, securing victory in four tournaments, showcasing his dominance at The Masters in April. This marked his second win at The Masters and his second major triumph overall. Additionally, he achieved back-to-back victories in two prestigious events, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship, both held in March.

In the opening round of this week’s PGA Championship, he delivered an impressive performance, carding a superb 4-under 67. This exceptional score placed him five shots adrift of the current leader, Xander Schauffele.

According to the tour, Scheffler has earned an impressive $61 million solely from his career on the PGA Tour, which ranks him 10th on the all-time earnings list.
