According to a recent update on social media by the Gaza Ministry of Health, the number of Palestinians who have lost their lives since the start of the war following the Hamas attack on Oct. 7 stands at 35,386. Additionally, a staggering 79,366 individuals have been injured.
Khan also made an announcement regarding the charges against Yahya Siwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al-Masri, the commander of Hamas’s military wing, and Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’s political bureau.
In his statement, Khan argued that the crimes against humanity that were charged were a result of a widespread and systematic attack on the civilian population of Israel by Hamas and other armed groups. He emphasized that these crimes, according to their assessment, are still ongoing.
Israeli military forces announced on Friday that they have successfully retrieved the bodies of three individuals who were held captive during the Oct. 7 assault and tragically lost their lives while attempting to flee the Nova music festival.
Israel President Isaac Herzog, along with other Israeli leaders, strongly denounced the arrest warrants issued against Netanyahu and Gallant, labeling them as “beyond outrageous.”
According to Herzog, this unilateral political move taken in bad faith not only emboldens terrorists globally but also violates the fundamental principles of the court, including the principle of complementarity and other legal norms.
Drawing parallels between these heinous terrorists and the democratically elected government of Israel is completely outrageous. The government of Israel is committed to fulfilling its duty to defend and protect its citizens, all while adhering to the principles of international law. It is clear that such comparisons are unacceptable to anyone.
According to Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s finance minister, the arrest warrants issued against Netanyahu and Gallan should be seen as “arrest warrants for all of us” in Israel. He further expressed his belief that these warrants should serve as a catalyst for the dismantling of the court.
Benny Gantz, a potential political rival to Netanyahu, criticized Hamas as a ruthless organization and condemned the arrest warrants against the Israeli as a clear display of moral bankruptcy.
Hamas also condemned the warrants against its leaders, asserting that it is the victim of war crimes committed by Israel.
“The ICC prosecutor’s application for arrest warrants against Israeli leaders is completely unacceptable,” stated President Biden in a statement released from the White House. “I want to make it crystal clear: there is absolutely no comparison โ none whatsoever โ between Israel and Hamas. We will consistently support Israel in the face of any threats to its security.”
The organization stated that President Biden’s recognition of the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant against Vladimir Putin, citing war crimes in Ukraine, as justified, should also extend to the arrest warrant applications sought by the ICC prosecutor against Benjamin Netanyahu for war crimes in Gaza.
