Conservative pundit George Conway made a prediction regarding the Manhattan hush money trial, stating that former President Trump will not receive a unanimous acquittal.
During an interview with MSNBCโs Katie Phang on Saturday, Conway expressed his belief that the recent testimony has clearly implicated Trump in the case. According to Conway, the evidence presented over the past few weeks suggests that Trump is heavily involved and it will be difficult for the jury to reach any other conclusion. With 34 counts of falsifying business records against him, it is clear that Trump played a significant role in causing this situation.
All 12 jurors are required to reach a unanimous decision on each of the 34 counts against Trump in order for the case to proceed without any issues. Conway pointed out that Trump’s defense team is banking on the chance that at least one juror will not agree to convict the former president.
According to the expert, the defense faces a challenging task. However, they only need to persuade one juror to hold out and prevent a unanimous decision against the group. He believes that obtaining a complete acquittal is unlikely and suggests that the defense’s strategy will rely on finding a jury member who is unwilling to convict.
During his speech, he emphasized the importance of the defense team presenting an “alternative explanation” in their closing arguments that could potentially raise reasonable doubt. However, he admitted that he was unsure about what exactly that alternative theory of the case would entail.
Last week, Trump’s defense team made the strategic decision to rest their case without calling the former president to the stand. In line with this, the judge announced that closing statements will commence on Tuesday, and jury deliberations will soon follow.
The former president faces 34 charges of falsifying business records in relation to a reimbursement made to Michael Cohen, Trump’s former fixer. The reimbursement was for a payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about her alleged affair with Trump. Trump maintains his innocence and denies the affair.
