President Joe Biden paid tribute to the brave men and women of the U.S. military who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country on Monday. He visited Arlington National Cemetery to lay a wreath and deliver his annual Memorial Day address.
Memorial Day is a time that evokes memories of a deeply personal nature for Mr. Biden. It serves as a solemn reminder of the loss he experienced with the passing of his son, Beau Biden. Beau, a member of the Delaware Air National Guard, tragically lost his life to brain cancer in 2015.

“This week, it has been nine years since I tragically lost my son Beau. While our losses may differ, I understand the pain and grief that comes with losing a loved one,” the president empathized, directly addressing the families and friends of fallen service members. “Beau did not meet his end on the battlefield. Instead, he fell victim to cancer as a result of his time in the Army, where he served in Iraq for a year alongside a burn pit.”
Highlighting the progress achieved by the PACT Act in supporting veterans exposed to hazardous substances during their service, the president expressed his satisfaction. He also proudly mentioned that, since assuming office, he has signed over 30 bipartisan bills aimed at providing assistance to veterans.
On Friday, President Biden issued a proclamation reaffirming our commitment to honoring the memories of the fallen soldiers “by continuing their work to create a more perfect Union.”
